arrayMap genome array plot updates: We are still optimizing the way genomic arrays are plotted in arrayMap. The optimal plug-in-less way would be to use SVG for all of the data plots. However, SVG isn’t very efficient for scatter plots; an Affymetrix SNP6 whole array plot weighs in with >100MB (and will crash most browsers …); 250k plots are borderline.
Our current strategy is to generate primary SVG data lots, but to present PNG versions of those. The SVGs are linked, and contain region and gene links (the latter for zoom-in plots only.
